Body Posture-Related Differences in Pain Perception and Their Mediation by Cardiovascular Factors

Body Posture-Related Differences in Pain Perception and Their Mediation by Cardiovascular Factors

Pain modulation arising from the cardiovascular system has repeatedly been described. It is mediated by the baroreceptor system, where the activity of baroreceptor afferents inhibits nociception. Body posture changes cause blood volume redistribution that might modulate baroreceptor activity and antinociceptive effects. This study investigated posture-related differences in pain perception and their causation by cardiovascular factors. Pressure pain threshold and tolerance and pain intensity…

Simultaneous derivation, validation, and comparison of predictor hazard ratios for cardiovascular risk prediction equations in patients with diabetes from high versus non-high income countries: cohort study

Simultaneous derivation, validation, and comparison of predictor hazard ratios for cardiovascular risk prediction equations in patients with diabetes from high versus non-high income countries: cohort study

CONCLUSIONS: Applying a high income country derived CVD risk prediction equation to a population from a non-high income country with diabetes may introduce systematic errors, primarily driven by differences in the effect of age. Moving beyond simple recalibration to updating key predictor coefficients, particularly age, should be considered for more accurate risk stratification. This study highlights potential limitations of high income country equation updating practices and proposes a feasible…

Trajectory of macrotroponin in a community cohort

Trajectory of macrotroponin in a community cohort

CONCLUSIONS: Elevated cTnI levels with macrotroponin remained elevated for several years in asymptomatic individuals in this community-based cohort. While interpreting elevated cTnI levels in the clinical context, recording macrotroponin as a diagnosis could alert clinicians to possible artefactual elevation of cTnI levels during subsequent clinical presentation and avoid inappropriate investigation and management.

Comparing four training modalities on body composition, cardiorespiratory fitness and cardiovascular responses in sedentary young men: a randomized trial

Comparing four training modalities on body composition, cardiorespiratory fitness and cardiovascular responses in sedentary young men: a randomized trial

CONCLUSIONS: These preliminary findings suggest outcome-specific differences among the training protocols. HIIT improved VO2peak more than MIIT, while high-intensity protocols showed greater improvements in selected cardiovascular responses. No adjusted between-group differences were detected for Bruce test duration, and no differential effects were observed for body composition. Larger controlled trials are needed to confirm these findings.

Cardiovascular events with esaxerenone versus spironolactone in hypertension

Cardiovascular events with esaxerenone versus spironolactone in hypertension

Mineralocorticoid receptor antagonists (MRAs) exhibit distinct pharmacologic profiles, yet their differential clinical relevance remains underexplored. This study assessed cardiovascular prevention with nonsteroidal esaxerenone (ESAX) relative to steroidal spironolactone (SPL) in hypertensive populations. From a nationwide claims database, we identified individuals with hypertension who newly initiated ESAX or SPL. Cardiovascular disease (CVD) was defined as a composite outcome of heart failure,…

Associations of loneliness, social isolation and healthy lifestyle with life expectancy free of major physical disease and mental disorder

Associations of loneliness, social isolation and healthy lifestyle with life expectancy free of major physical disease and mental disorder

Loneliness and social isolation are linked to higher risks of mortality and a range of adverse physical diseases and mental disorders, yet the extent to which they affect overall health and quality of life remains unclear. Here we show that loneliness and social isolation are more strongly associated with life expectancy free of mental disorder than with life expectancy free of physical disease. This study includes 277,489 adults from the UK Biobank who are initially free of seven major chronic…
