The association between obesity indices and hypertension in adults with different glycemic status: A population-based cross-sectional study of the Bandare-Kong cohort

Obesity and hypertension (HTN) frequently coexist with dysglycemia, yet it remains unclear whether general (BMI) versus central (waist circumference, WC) obesity indices show differential associations with HTN across normoglycemic, prediabetic, and diabetic states. This population-based study aimed to assess this relationship among adults aged 35 to 70 from the Bandare-Kong cohort. HTN was determined based on systolic blood pressure ≥130 mm Hg, diastolic blood pressure ≥80 mm Hg, or…

Sex and Age Differences in Outcomes After Endovascular Thrombectomy of Patients With Acute Ischemic Stroke and Atrial Fibrillation: A Danish Nationwide Study

Sex and Age Differences in Outcomes After Endovascular Thrombectomy of Patients With Acute Ischemic Stroke and Atrial Fibrillation: A Danish Nationwide Study

CONCLUSIONS: Among patients undergoing EVT for large vessel occlusion stroke in Denmark, women with AF had higher odds of good functional outcome and men with AF showed higher successful reperfusion rates with advancing age. Safety and mortality outcomes were similar across groups with AF. These findings suggest age-and sex-specific influences on EVT outcomes associated with AF.

Health Consequences of Spousal Health Shocks: Evidence from a Matched Event Study in the United States

Health Consequences of Spousal Health Shocks: Evidence from a Matched Event Study in the United States

Major disease diagnoses can create shocks that ripple through households. Population-level evidence in the U.S. on how spouses and partners fare after a partner’s major diagnosis remains sparse and is often limited to caregivers or employment-related outcomes. Using the U.S. Health and Retirement Study (1992-2020), we evaluated population-level health spillovers to spouses after a partner’s first diagnosis of cancer, stroke, or heart disease, using a stacked event-study design with matching (n =…
