Mortality in Castration Resistant Prostate Cancer Patients With and Without Pre-Existing Cardiovascular Disease Receiving Oral Androgen Receptor Pathway Inhibitors

Mortality in Castration Resistant Prostate Cancer Patients With and Without Pre-Existing Cardiovascular Disease Receiving Oral Androgen Receptor Pathway Inhibitors

CONCLUSION: In this population-based cohort of older men with castration-resistant prostate cancer, treatment with oral androgen receptor pathway inhibitors was associated with lower estimated risks of all-cause and prostate cancer-specific mortality compared with chemotherapy in patients with and without pre-existing CVD. These findings add real-world comparative effectiveness evidence for patient populations not well represented in randomized clinical trials; however, given the observational…

Associations of testosterone, sex hormone-binding globulin, and related hormones with risks of cancer death, incident cancer, and incident prostate cancer in men: individual participant data meta-analyses

Associations of testosterone, sex hormone-binding globulin, and related hormones with risks of cancer death, incident cancer, and incident prostate cancer in men: individual participant data meta-analyses

BACKGROUND: Whether differences in sex hormones influence cancer risk in men remains uncertain. We aimed to clarify the association of circulating testosterone, sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG), and related hormones with risks of cancer death, incident cancer, and incident prostate cancer by means of individual participant data (IPD) meta-analyses.

Visual Impairment and Cardiovascular Risk Factors in Hispanic and Latino Adults

Visual Impairment and Cardiovascular Risk Factors in Hispanic and Latino Adults

CONCLUSIONS AND RELEVANCE: In this cross-sectional study of US Hispanic/Latino adults, VI and CVD risk factor prevalence varied by ethnic background, and diabetes and cumulative CVD risk factors were associated with VI. The findings provide updated prevalence estimates and support the need for longitudinal studies of causal relationships between VI and CVD risk factors.

Global trends in the prevalence of type 2 diabetes mellitus: understanding trajectories through conceptual frameworks

Global trends in the prevalence of type 2 diabetes mellitus: understanding trajectories through conceptual frameworks

CONCLUSIONS: Global T2DM prevalence reflects the interaction of biological, social, and health system processes rather than incidence alone. Prevalence trajectories must be interpreted in light of surveillance limitations, diagnostic context, and within-disease heterogeneity. Addressing future burden requires combining improved detection and chronic-care capacity with upstream, life-course-oriented prevention strategies.

Association between depressive symptoms and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease: a Swedish population-based cohort study

Association between depressive symptoms and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease: a Swedish population-based cohort study

CONCLUSIONS: This study provides evidence linking depressive symptoms to ASCVD and premature ASCVD in a Swedish population. The findings underscore the need to consider the effects of depressive symptoms as well as potential prevention strategies for depressive symptoms in regard to cardiovascular diseases. Future research should explore whether early identification and treatment of depressive symptoms can mitigate ASCVD risk and improve long-term cardiovascular outcomes.

Associations of psychosocial factors with cardiovascular health in aging: insights from the Inlife-Aging Project

Associations of psychosocial factors with cardiovascular health in aging: insights from the Inlife-Aging Project

Life’s Essential 8 (LE8) provides a multidimensional framework to assess cardiovascular health (CVH) in aging populations. The objective of this study was to describe LE8 component scores and their variation by age, sex, and psychosocial factors in middle-aged and older adults from Cádiz, Spain. Cross-sectional data were analyzed from 495 adults aged 50-79 years (59.4% women; 34.7% ≥ 65 years). LE8 scores were calculated following American Heart Association guidelines. Group comparisons used…
